It’s been a long, long wait, but the day when we can finally go indoors to eat and drink in our favourite pubs, cafes and restaurants is just around the corner.
Since 12th April, we’ve had to deal with the vagaries of English spring weather when planning to meet up for a drink or a meal. But from Monday 17th May, we can leave the umbrellas and jumpers behind when we pop out for a pint or a pizza.
Things won’t quite back to pre-covid normal, of course. The “rule of six” (that is, six people or two households) will apply to all indoor hospitality venues, you’ll have to order from your table and wear a mask if you leave your table to go to the loo, for example. Social distancing measures will still be in place, with tables well-spaced or separated by screens. But you won’t need to order a scotch egg with your Pinot Grigio and neither will you be thrown out at 10pm!
If you haven’t already decided where to go to celebrate the return of indoor eating after 17th May, here are some favourites in the local area.
